Many variations have been made with regard to the basketball game. People from small communities who want to try more games using the basketball, the net and the court invented some warm-up games. One of these is the game “Basketball Around the World.” Basketball Around the World is a simple yet a very exciting shooting game that may be played in or out the gym. It is called “around the world” because the players literally need to go around the entire key of the court. In this game, a basketball court isn’t needed since one can use the empty or abandoned parking lot in their community.

The equipment needed in this game are a basketball and a basketball ring. Two or more players are needed in this game– the more players, the merrier. To start the game, “stops” or “spots” should be arranged around the basket. These stops help players determine what place they have to go. This also helps in the accuracy of the distance between the player and the ring.  The “stops” start at a corner of a key and each is located in a circular motion around the key. Five “stops” around the key are recommended to begin with but it can be increased depending on the players and the area. There also should be “stops” at the free throw line and underneath the basket.

In this game, the players should make a series of shots in and around the key. When a shot is made in one position by the player, he then moves to another position. Every shot must be made in succession where all players must take shots alternately. If the shot is made, the player moves on to the next key but if the shot is missed, the player can have another chance to shoot again. However, the player should be careful in taking his mere chance. In this game, only one chance is given to a player. So, if the player misses his chance shot, he may choose to get his chance or decide to start over. The first player who makes succession shots is declared the winner. That’s the simple game rules of Basketball Around the World.

But, what does it do to help players? This game is a game of endurance and accuracy. Endurance is “the ability to continue or last one’s actions despite of fatigue, stress, or other adverse conditions”. This kind of game may help the player focus despite of fatigue that may occur in the formal game. Another aspect that this game brings is accuracy. Accuracy is being precise, correct or exact. It is also having freedom from errors. To shoot the ball, one must be able to estimate his distance from the ring.  Estimating the correct distance may help the player adjust his arm position and his force in throwing the ball.

Shooting is one of the important parts of basketball. It is through shooting that points are made. These aspects (accuracy and endurance) are very important in developing the skill in shooting. Try this with friends and be the best shooter around the world.
